Intro:
Some horror movies rely on monsters and violence. Decorado creates discomfort through paranoia, artificial reality, and emotional hopelessness instead. Meanwhile, the movie’s colorful animation hides a much darker story underneath.
Synopsis:
Arnold is an unemployed middle-aged mouse living in a strange city called Anywhere. Although life appears normal on the surface, Arnold slowly becomes convinced that his world is fake and carefully controlled.

As his paranoia grows, he begins uncovering disturbing truths about the society around him. However, every answer only makes the situation feel more hopeless. The movie then spirals into an existential nightmare filled with manipulation, surveillance, and emotional collapse.

Summary:
What Works
The animation style immediately stands out. The cute animal characters create a strong contrast against the movie’s bleak themes and disturbing ideas. Because of that, even ordinary scenes start feeling uncomfortable after a while.

The movie also builds dread in unusual ways. Instead of relying on jump scares, it focuses on paranoia and loss of identity. Long conversations and awkward silences slowly create tension as Arnold questions whether anything around him is real.

Visually, the movie looks fantastic. The city feels artificial and lifeless despite its colorful appearance. Meanwhile, strange background details constantly hint that something is deeply wrong underneath the surface.

Fans of psychological horror will probably appreciate the movie’s darker satire as well. Some scenes feel similar to Brazil or The Truman Show, except filtered through depression and existential horror.

What Doesn’t Work
The slow pacing and abstract storytelling will not work for everyone. Also, the movie leaves several ideas intentionally vague, which may frustrate viewers looking for straightforward answers. Fans expecting traditional horror scares may feel disconnected from its arthouse style.
Final Thoughts
Decorado stands out because it mixes existential dread, dark comedy, and psychological horror in a very unique way. Fans of surreal animated films and slow psychological horror should absolutely give it a chance. The Psychological category fits best because the movie focuses heavily on paranoia, emotional collapse, manipulation, and fear of losing control over reality itself.
