At first, the community seems strange but peaceful. However, the rituals quickly become disturbing. As the festival continues, Dani realizes something is deeply wrong with the isolated group surrounding them.
The deeper the characters get into the celebration, the harder it becomes to escape.
Florence Pugh delivers an amazing performance. Dani feels vulnerable, angry, and emotionally exhausted throughout the movie. Meanwhile, the supporting cast helps create believable relationship tension that adds to the discomfort.
The visuals also stand out. The bright flowers, white clothing, and beautiful scenery clash with the disturbing events happening underneath. So the movie constantly feels wrong even when everything looks peaceful.
The slow pacing will not work for everyone. The movie takes its time building tension, and the long runtime can feel exhausting. Also, some viewers may find the symbolism overly heavy at times.
Midsommar is not a casual horror movie. It is slow, uncomfortable, and emotionally intense from beginning to end. However, if you enjoy psychological horror with strong atmosphere and disturbing imagery, it is absolutely worth watching.
