As Regan’s condition worsens, doctors fail to explain what is happening. Desperate for answers, Chris turns to two priests who believe the girl may be possessed. From there, the movie slowly builds toward a terrifying confrontation.
The performances are also outstanding. Ellen Burstyn brings real emotion to the role of a terrified mother, while Linda Blair delivers one of the most famous performances in horror history. Meanwhile, the quieter scenes help the movie feel grounded before the chaos fully begins.
The practical effects still hold up surprisingly well. Many moments remain disturbing because they feel physical and real instead of overly polished.
The pacing may feel slow for some modern viewers. The movie spends a long time building atmosphere before the possession fully escalates. However, that slow buildup is also part of what makes the ending work so well.
remains one of the most important horror movies ever made. It still feels intense, unsettling, and emotionally heavy decades later. If you enjoy supernatural horror, this is essential viewing.
